First of all, can I just comment on the fact that John Stewart’s moment of zen last night was, ever so aptly, Bush’s plane flying off into the far, far distance? WOOT.

Ahem.

Also, before I go any further, I would also like to announce that tomorrow’s TMI Thursday will be brought to you by a very, VERY special guest blogger. (No, I’m not just getting lazy. It’s GOOD, and in light of last week’s, very appropriate…)

Sunday night, Katertot of Who Invented Roses, Restaurant Refugee and I were lucky enough to host the smashingly successful Bloggerational Ball. Seriously, to everyone who made it out on one of the District’s craziest weekends of all time… can’t thank you enough, and SO GLAD that you did. It was such an honor to meet every single one of you- there were a ton of people I’ve never met before, which was so freaking cool- and we definitely need to do it again soon.

I was fortunate enough to have the lovely Fearless in Toronto staying with me for the long weekend, and we promptly popped the champagne when she and Refugee arrived at the abode at, oh, 1400 hours. Moments thereafter I was informed that while the delightful 16 Paws had made it to DC all the way from Illinois… her bag had not. Her dress, her shoes, her womanly supplies… the airline had no idea where they were, nor when they would turn up.

She was instructed to come over immediately. Thankfully we are the same size, and though the items weren’t her own, we suitably fashioned for her the Little Black Dress, the Killer Heels, and a bathroom full of Womanly Supplies. (That sounds like a bad name for a feminine product, no? Trust, I mean like… a curling iron and some mascara. As far as YOU know.)

Though it was the Sunday before Inauguration, we managed to quickly snag the ever-fashionable Minivan Cab and rolled up to the Reef in style.

Hey hookers. Had an absolute BLAST last night. Am coffee-ing and champagne-ing to try and become a human again.

It’s like this…The Bloggerational Ball Committee has gotten elevenity nine emails from people saying, “Wish we could come, because we heart the Obaminator, but we are broke-ass due to these rough economic times.” And guess what? WE HEARD YOU. The new POTUS and his administration are all about Hope and Change and Egalitarianism and Saving Your 401K. And we’re on board. So, we thought, why not be the ultimate embodiment of that message? Why not show our support of El Presidente via booze and a party that’s open to everybody and most importantly, FREE? As in COSTS YOU NO MONEY!!!!!!

In changing this to a zero cost of admission event, we were unable to rework the arrangement with Bourbon, our original location. No hard feelings towards Bourbon and their management – they remain a great place to get your booze on and soak it up with bite of food – it just didn’t work.

In the Spirit of Obama, we tossed the old game plan and came up with a new one:

We are going to congregate on the second floor of the Reef in our dress up clothes (hells bells we still want you to wear your ball clothes). Katherine is still going to campaign for Ball Queen and will be taking photos for her drunkie documentary. LiLu will be bringing tatertots from home and nomnomnoming away. If you can pry one out of her fists, you can have one. And Restaurant Refugee will be in a tux. And probably a Zorro mask to hide his secret identity. And drinking champagne. The only thing that has changed really is the cost and the location (and the perks, but whatever, the booze will still be flowing).

Come on out and BarRock the Party with us, kittens!

My Fellow Interwebby Compatriots:

Some people like to spend their Saturday afternoons at the mall. Some play co-ed sports. Some have elegant brunches and poised conversation.

Then there’s me. Who gets wasted at a divey sports bar with an equally crafty partner in crime, and ends up concocting the most wonderfully ridiculous idea ever over a laptop (don’t drink and type!) and far, far too much beer.

My friends, we give you…

Here’s the pitch: There are many of us who would love to go to one of the Inauguration Balls, but we are relatively poor and without connections. As such, my lovely friends Restaurant Refugee and Katherine of Who Invented Roses and I would like to propose that we throw our own Bloggeration Ball. In fact, it’s not so much a proposition as it is completely happening. We have rented out the top floor Bourbon for the evening of Sunday, January 18th, 2009.

Why Sunday, you ask? Well, my friends, because this is DC, and most of us will be lucky enough have Monday (MLK) and Tuesday (actual Inauguration Day) OFF! Also, partying five nights in a row = funsies! Refugee also had the good sense to point out that this will basically be like the more-fun After Party of an event, only we skip the event and just get down to partying with the people we actually like. Awesome!

The Deets:

Date: Sunday, January 18th, 2009

Time: The ever-classy 9 pm

Location: Bourbon in Adams Morgan (18th and Kalorama, NW)

Cost: A mere $47 via PayPal (I promise, I am a verified member and will not steal your hard-earned dollars). Simply send an email to bloggerationball@gmail.com. List your name, the name of your blog if you have one, and indicate how many tickets you will need. You will get an email with PayPal instructions. Once you have you have paid your money you will be confirmed for the event.

Food: Passed hors d’oeuvres for everyone! (There are rumblings of TATER TOTS… just sayin…)

Booze: Discounted drinks all night (get it? Subsidized?), complimentary champagne toast, and Refugee and I have already started working on signature drinks for the evening.

Dress: Black-tie OPTIONAL. No excuses if you don’t have a tux!

Availability: Space is currently limited to 150 tickets, however if there is greater demand it is possible that the party can grow to 250.

Who’s Coming: Bloggers, readers, lurkers, friends- are all welcome. The only rules are dress for the occasion, be cool, be fabulous, be fun.
