I am not really one for the schmoop. Generally, I prefer sarcasm and bonding over self-deprecating jokes over talking about our feeeeeeeeelings. If and when we do discuss our emotions, we better be a bottle of wine (or three) deep, ya dig?
But this time, I can’t help it. The past weekend was one of the best of my life, and I just want to scream it from a rooftop, like I was an Italian lover with a heart full of song, or John Cusack in the 80s. (Or John Cusack ever, who are we kidding.)
I spent the better part of last week in Vegas at Bloggers in Sin City (#BiSC), surrounded by 50+ of the kindest, sweetest, funniest, friendliest bloggers this side of the US border. (Yes, that includes Canada, Brandy/Simone. See what I did there?!)
Listen, I’ve been to a lot of meetups, tweetups, and other “let’s take this party offline” festivities in my day – I’ve even put on a few (dozen) of them myself. But let me invoke the power of Sinead O’Conner for a moment, and just tell you that nothing compares to this.
Everyone was just so OPEN and ready to really get to know each other. And we were at an immediate advantage with this, because we’ve all been stalking each other online for months in anticipation. As Nico so eloquently put it in his video recap, “instead of feeling people out and starting from scratch, a lot of these friendships just kind of hit the ground running.”
I didn’t walk into that first happy hour on Thursday to a crowd of strangers. I walked in and was immediately embraced, figuratively and literally, by 56 friends (and more than a few life-size cutouts of Donny Osborne. That shiz is everywhere in Vegas.) And while I am lame and old and wasn’t really drinking (since by midnight I literally felt like I had been roofied from exhaustion - DAMN YOU, EST INTERNAL CLOCK!!!!!), the party didn’t stop until the moment I left on Sunday morning.
Nicole (our amazing organizer), you are like a fairy godmother who sprinkles vodka and hair tinsel and condoms down on us all. My life is approximately 529% better for knowing you.
Chelsea, take care of that piece of my heart that you stole because I AM BROKEN WHEN YOU ARE NOT AROUND. Jenn, Doni, Katelin, my life is cold and gray without you in it. New pact to never go a year without seeing each other EVER AGAIN, cool? Cool.
Jenny, I’m so glad we got to spend serious QT together this year. Welcome to the club of “My Favorite People on Earth”. (It comes with a gold star.) Ditto Molly – your bubbliness is infectious, and I don’t do bubbly, so this is saying something.
I want to list every single person I met but A) I’m lazy, and B) we’re too busy chatting in our top secret Facebook group anyway. #nerds #loveit
Suffice to say I love each and every one of you, and will continue to stalk you on the internet now that we are apart once more. (Tear.)
And now, I will finally shut up about how great my life is, and let the pictures speak their thousands of ridiculous words.
To everyone who was there, face licks and hashtag dances and slash scoops forever. I can’t wait to see you all again next year.

I cannot wait to go next year.
Just for entrance to the secret FB group.
It is craycray in there. In a good way.
I LOVE YOU AND I AM BROKEN WITHOUT YOU, THEE END. ALSO, LOVE THAT SINEAD REFERENCE- KARAOKE NEXT TIME?
YES!!!! How did that not happen? I know the best place ever in NYC – JUST SAYIN. <3
jealous!
GET YOUR ASS TO BOSTON.
Oh, it is happening!!!
YES
brooke, we are gonna have a mini Boston meetup, and we will hope certain other Massholes are there at least in spirit
Great pictures! This really makes me miss Las Vegas. Maybe next year I will go.
I’m actually not a Vegas fan, but with this crew, I’d go to Tajikistan.
I have so much hate for everyone who isn’t dating someone who lives 3000 miles away and has to use all of their money and vacation time on getting laid. I mean…being in love. And getting laid.
I thought they were synonyms. What?
When are you coming to DC?!
I don’t know. I’m really, really, really hoping October. I’ve already paid for all my plane tickets through August except one way to AK, so hopefully my bank account will recover enough to come out.
*like*
psssssst….. you forgot the only other Canadian blogger that was there… ME!! lol
And i would totally go to Tajikstan too if it meant i got to see the BiSC-2011 group again!
Ahhh, I’m sorry! I KNEW I was missing someone amazing from that list. I will ship 43 unicorns as an apology gift immediately!!! <3
will they be unicorns like Penny from the Absinthe show was talking about??? haha
OMG, NO. Haha. That was hilarious(ly horrifying).
“And our mouths are all open!!!”
Scarred for life.
FOR LIFE.
Hugs! Kisses! Sparkles! Oh wait, you said you don’t do schmoopy…
It was soooo amazing meeting you, and I’m thrilled that we got the chance to really chat during some great QT (the QUOTA!!) — even though we both felt like we’d been roofied by 12am. Love you to pieces and can’t wait to keep in touch. Gold Star favorite-people-on-earth-club right back ‘atcha
THE QUOTA!!! Hahahaha, I totally forgot about that! I’ll be using it in the future, guaranteed. <3 <3 <3
seriously. i’m putting bisc 2012 on the calendar RIGHT NOW #sojealous
Do it!! You won’t be sorry.
Ahh, four days with bloggers is definitely not nearly enough. I say we all just move to Vegas and become a living commercial for Flamingo.
LIKE!!!!
So they would PAY us to do #BiSC… all the time?
YES PLEASE.
I remember seeing that Donny bag by the pool and I was like “who bought that!! That is awesome!” Now I know. I’m totes jealous of your tote.
The only other bags in the gift shop were $50 Vera Bradleys (vomit).
Though, if I’m being honest, I probably would have bought this one no matter what.
We need a secret handshake. OH WAIT, we already have one.
HASHTAG DANCE!
HASHTATS!!!!!
Love this. Love you. Love all the schmoop. Next time, we need more quality time!!!
Yes we do!!! Hopefully I’ll be out in Cali for work this year too.
schmoooooooooooop
I’m all about the schmoop, how are we even friends?
I’ll allow schmoop from you. ONLY you.
stupid graduation interfering with things like this. next year? this is so, so happening.
YES. Make sure that it does!
I’m sorry–is that a leopard print dress? I think there is something in my eye…
Baby’s all grown up!
LOVE all the pictures and LOVE that we got to be all jungley and animal printy and rawr together as well as all the millions of other things that happened last weekend. basically i miss you like whoa and please come to LA sooooooooooon.
I’m going to get back on the schmoop train for a hot second here just to reiterate how awesome getting in EARLY was because a) NO ONE should endure that Hard Rock Cafe waiter alone (TOO MUCH!), and b) happy hour wine and all that other stuff with you is just the best. I want to come to DC sometime. Can we do that?
Love, love, love it all and you and Vegas and ALL OF THE THINGS and that you live close enough to visit.
Nicole really does make everyone’s life about 500 percent better, doesn’t she? AND ALL HER FRIENDS ARE AMAZING, YOU ABSOLUTELY INCLUDED. I want to devour you all. I mean, it’s inappropriate.
So unbelievably jealous! I must get to BiSC next year.
Love the photos. So envious of all you guys. Wish I had good blogger friends!
That look like you guys had a LOT of fun. But I hope “face licking” isn’t literal. Gross?
