Remember last summer when we all “Got Our Kvetch On, Blogging Style“? We bitched and moaned about the things that drive us INSANE when it comes to blog layouts, features, writing, etc.
Well, as a contributing editor over at DC Blogs, we deal with that shiz every time we go through some hundreds of blogs to find our favorites for a round up. Co-contributing editor Restaurant Refugee and I decided to have a drunken gchat of a rant share with y’all some of the things that (almost) automatically disqualify a post from being included.
So check it out and share your thoughts… or just see what I look like on gchat after throwing back a couple cocktails.
It’s Not You, It’s Your Aesthetic
P.S. B and I are going to be visiting the Windy City the weekend of October 9th to see my bffie Kbo run the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. This means two things:
1. My girl’s running with TNT to beat leukemia! If you have a dollar or ten to spare, please please support her!
2. If you’re in Chicago or will be or COULD be on Saturday, October 9th, let me know in the comments and I’ll add you to my email list for the meet up I’ll be plotting. What what!
P.P.S. Because it’s Friday: http://youshouldhaveseenthis.com

@megabrooke,
YES! Sounds like perfection to me! Let’s email
My new favorite term “rocket surgery.”
Excuse me, I have some rocket surgery to attend to.
@imgonnabreakyourheart,
Absolutely. Rocket surgery is very busy and important.
This is perfect! I will make it a point to be in Chicago that night, even if I’m not living there yet, it will be a perfect opportunity for me to see you AND to meet people in Chicago!
@RondaMarie,
YES! And also, hooray!!
one of my best friends is running/working that marathon
@linda,
Rock on, maybe we’ll see em there!
stealing rocket surgery!
also half tempted to take the mega bus to chi then but NY trip in Nov makes it unlikely.
@Clevelandpoet,
I hear ya. If you can, let us know! I’ll have a site to RSVP to up shortly.
I don;t run. But I do Chicago!
@The Maidern Metallurgist,
I don’t run either, but I DEFINITELY do YOU!! Can’t wait!
Um, so… that weekend is my Quarter-Century-Old birthday weekend.
I currently have no plans.
I may need to go to Chicago now… (it IS my hometown, after all.)
@Jeney,
Woman. MAKE IT HAPPEN.
I’m just going to wrap up About Pages Written in the Third Person in with Self-Important Blogging. GAG.
Also, Chicago– just keep your 10/9 late afternoon, pre-dinner free. Please and thanks! Hearts and rainbows and stuff!
@LesleyG,
You AND Kbo in Chicago = BEST WEEKEND EVER. That’s all there is to it. <3
I was reading the comments on the conversation between you and RR on the link. Y’all hit some sensitive nerves over there. Wow. Notice that it’s the self important jerks who were brayed! Have fun in Chi town.
@Dorn,
Hahaha, exactly. And fuck ‘em. Thanks!
I’ll be there with a few friends running the marathon too! Woot!
@Carla @ I Run, You Run,
Oh, awesome!! You’ll have to come to the meet up!
i live in chicago so count me in for any meet-ups that involve drinking activities please! meet ups yayyyyyyyy!
@working girl two,
YES! Can’t wait to see you again!!
I’ll be in Chicago in September
Would have been great to meet you and other bloggers. I’ve never been to a meet-up, but maybe some day I’ll be in the right place at the right time.
@Lindsay,
Ah, BOO. One of these times, the stars will have to align…
The automatic music is the worst & I have the exact same reaction as you do. I always jump out of my seat a little because its always WAY TOO LOUD and then I try and shut all tabs in a frantic “omg do not want do not want make it stop” session.
@Skinny Dip,
Exactly. And it’s usually at WORK which makes it 10,000 times more awkward and scary. Oy.
ARGH.
So I’ll be in Florida on October 9th meaning I can’t get up to Chicago. GRRRR.
@Nora,
Oh noooooooooooooooooes!
Hahaha, thanks for the comment! Good stuff – especially that music…maybe we’ll get some rockin’ MIDI’s for our site when we update it, with some dancing icons!
PS: Anytime you feel a rant coming on – shoot us an email…we’d love to have a guest blogger every now and then!
@Get Over Yourself!,
Dancing FLASHING icons, preferably.
And thanks! Will do!
White text/black background killllsss me. You’re pretty much saying, DON’T READ MY BLOG. Well, because you can’t!
@Ellen@FirednFabulous,
Exactly. I love your layout, FYI!
I’m always up for a bloggy meet-up, count me in!
@Bri,
Woot!!
Awespme bullskillz lady!
@Alyxmyself,
Haha, thanks dear!
have i told you lately that i heart you? because i do. also…does writing in all lower cased letters considered a grammar annoyance? …meh
@yourstrulydear,
Not at all. That’s a stylistic choice… and a lovely one at that. I like it. And you
I occasionally apologize for being a dead beat blogger, but more so because I haven’t kept up with whats in my reader or returned comments. Does that make me self-important? (poises knife over wrist).
Or dramatic?
@Katrina,
Nah, that’s sweet. You’re saying “I haven’t been there for YOU, never mind me.” <3
Hi LiLu! I’m glad you liked my comment on this over at DC Blogs! I’ve been following your blog for sometime now too, so I’d love to be friends.
@Dee DC (aka Gigs),
It’s done. We’re officially friends now. Get ready.
Do you have a twitter?
I said it yesterday, but it bears repeating: You and Refugee need to have many more drunken GChats! Your wisdom and humor benefit us all!
Not only will I be in town, I will be FIRST in line with bells on for this tweetup.
I am SO in!!!
Hehehe I feel bad now cos I will apologise if I haven’t blogged in ages. I just think it’s polite. Not cos I think people will have been weeping without me but cos I know friends who don’t live local like to know what I’m up to. I never thought of it as being seen as an ego thing before
This got a good Monday laugh out of me. If I had a penny for every drunk gchat conversation I wish I had posted to the internet…
I was just in Chicago and I loved it. Thinking about going back for the craziness of St. Patrick’s Day.
Crap! I’m in Chicago four weeks too early.
Sidenote: on vacation, there was a big sign welcoming us to one city: LEEDS: LIVE IT, LOVE IT. Totally thought of you halfway round the world
Hmm, it *sounds* like this might be the closest you might get to my neck of the woods, even though Chicago is still a good 5-hours away, and though I have, inexplicably, never been there… it seems like something that is at least a little bit feasible, possibly… *ponders*
Ahh, I’ve never thought about this really but it’s so true!
I think my main pet peeve is when I see the title of the post, and try to read a few sentences of it, and after that I STILL DON’T HAVE A GODDAMN IDEA WHAT ITS MEANT TO BE ABOUT. (I read through NetNewsWire and I actually unsubscribed from a blog because I kept getting posts like:
“It’s Never Just Something
Moonpointer : Buddhist Blog of Everyday Dharma 23/08/2010 17:17 zhaojian Movies/TV Dharma
A friend’s experience… While shortlisting films for a Buddhist short film festival, I spoke firmly against the choice of one, listing more than 20 reasons why it should not be selected. To my shock, despite this, someone exclaims that ‘It’s just a movie’. Disturbing… because aren’t Buddhist film festivals for sharing the Dharma; and not [...]

I mean seriously, how exactly does any of that make me want to read it?!
