Oh, BlogHer. I honestly don’t even know where to start.
*dives right in*
I got on a Bolt Bus Friday morning, anxious to meet my e-friend and roommate Elizabeth for the first time. I had an Expo/Party pass from the lovely Justine of Brand About Town, and two full days in NYC with only one specific thing on my schedule: the Saturday evening 20sb Happy Hour at Johnny Utah’s, where I had vowed to ride the hell out of their mechanical bull.
The bus took off and I was officially Excited In The Pants for all the things to come… until it broke down, an hour outside of DC. Like, electricity-off-broke-down… aka no A/C. So we suffocated on the side of the road until a new bus could be brought to fetch us. Finally, we were on our way again, and the trip was relatively uneventful until we were actually approaching NYC, and the bus was making unwieldy turn after bumpy exits after terrifying tunnel… and it was that moment I very urgently needed to pee.
Against my better judgment, matter won over mind, and I unsteadily made my way into the sliver of a “bathroom” at the back. Once inside, I was faced with a grave problem: there was no way to not fall over without supporting oneself against the walls, and yet there was no way I was touching those walls. I almost wish the next two minutes were on camera, as I was flipped around that 9 square foot space, using elbows and a few 1 ply squares of TP to try to keep myself from tumbling into the cesspool of a toilet, as well as relieve myself without decorating the restroom, or worse, myself.
Let’s just say by the time I made it out of there, I was fairly certain that mechanical bull wouldn’t be a problem at all.
We arrived without further incident, and I entered the Hilton New York in Times Square to see BlogHer here, there, and everywhere. We had taken OVER the place. Everywhere you looked were women chatting, sharing, promoting, exchanging, inspiring, laughing. By the time I made it up to my room, it was obvious that BlogHer had pwned the Hilton… and it was awesome.
I spent a couple hours exploring the Expo halls with Elizabeth, where sponsors handed out swag and chatted up their new products, but more importantly, were awesome people who actually wanted to hear what WE had to say. The number one question I was asked was, “Are you a blogger??” They were EXCITED to meet us, to share with us, to impress us. *cue “A Whole New World” music*
When my arms started to hurt from the bags o’ swag, I met the beautiful Kinsey for dinner at a pub around the corner from the Hilton. We’d met before at a happy hour in Boston, but it was so great to have some one on one time and really get to talk. She’s got some exciting things in store for you, Boston- be sure to watch that girl.
After a bit, my beloved Matt met up with us for drinks.
And drinks and drinks and drinks and drinks and drinks.
Kinsey took off for a Sex and the City tour with her girlfriends, so Matt and I did what any normal people would do:
Got even more plastered and found the nearest karaoke bar.
Shitfaced at some ridiculously pretentious strangely all-white basement club, we ordered our $12 drinks and looked at the song book. This choice was not to be taken lightly.
We had two requirements: first, it had to be a duet, and second, it had to be the absolute WORST duet we could possibly think of.
Please to enjoy…
Shortly thereafter (for obvious reasons), we called it a night.
In the morning, this happened:
To be continued… (and, um… Saturday? Put Friday to SHAME. That is all.)

I went to BlogHim.
I was the only one in attendance.
This shit makes me sad.
Ahhhahahahahahahaha!! I love the bathroom visual.
Can’t wait until to read Saturday’s saga. ;o)
OMG, second comment?!?! I never get second comment. It is a great day!
First MTV and now Bolt Bus try to keep LiLu from NYC?! Little did they know nothing can keep you from double fisting and bringing the awesome to the big apple.
I heart you
Oh goodnesss…I can’t to hear about Saturday after watching that video!
Ahhh yes. Good times! It was great hanging out with you again!!
hahah oh boy! priceless!
check out my giveaway!!
LiLu rocked NYC! Excellent!
May I just say, that is one of my all-time most hated karaoke songs? right behind “Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy.” Like seriously, the husband and I went to karaoke last week and got up to leave when we heard SAHRAC start.
Though, as with everything you do, you rocked your horrible karaoke song’s face off!
Haha, laughing at the tweets (in a good way). Can’t watch the video at stupid work, but I will.
Also, I heard a song over the weekend that had the exact words “live it, love it,” in it as the chorus and i don’t know who it was or the name of the song. I did, however think of you immediately and nearly called you but it was early on Sunday and figured you were hungover and/or out partying with the NYC crew =)
I tried to get into blogher by saying I had long hair and that I would tuck “it” in if that helped. It didn’t.
though at a bar one night the girl bartender wanted to be all girl power and buy a round for the chicks and I offered to tuck it in for the shot and she thought that was funny enough to give me a free drink.
sounds like this was epic.
Aw, you were in NYC and we didn’t get to meet!
Awesome. Just awesome. Wish I could have been there to see it in person!
I will have to listen to this duet when I get home. I imagine it to be magical though
What was Matt doing at BlogHer? Picking up chicks?
@k8,
I wasn’t at blogger, I assure you! I live in NY and just met up for a couple of drinks.
Although I did think of waiting outside the event and picking up women.
NYC certainly does know how to get people plastered and screaming at karaoke machines…
I really love the dance moves that accompany this karaoke. Also, the title of the video. Nicely done.
I think you should start carrying a video camera around on those kinds of nights. Then you can revist it in the a.m. and send the proper apologies
This is the best karaoke I’ve ever heard. Sounds like blogher was a success…I’m already planning on going next year! Can’t wait to hear about Saturday!
Oh, the bathroom visual (LOL) and you &Karaoke, oh, my!!!
Seems like Blogher was a success, all the bloggers are sharing their party stories!!!!
I’m so sad that I didn’t go to BlogHer.
The Boltbuas from Dc -NYC is notorious for breaking down. I went to visit my brother last year and the back of the bus literally exploded into flames. I really can’t believe I haven’t blogged about that experience.
Sounds like you had a blast, really wish I could have been there.
Ahhh sounds ridiculous and wonderful. Sort of sad I didn’t go!
LMAO@the bathroom experience on the bus OMGawd! I am so loving reading everyones BlogHer posts!
Ohhh that is simply awesome.
i wish i could have been in the crowd. I would have ordered several rounds of shots following this.
our tweet exchange seriously killed me, so ridiculous. and you’re right saturday, just nuts.
but that video, such a gem, love it.
You should totally hire a full-time caretaker for yourself, otherwise, I predict one day, you’ll be on E’s 15 Most Notorious Women List.
Wow, that bar does look a bit strange. Next time you want to rock the mic in NYC, let me know and I’ll give you plenty of awesome recs
Sweet job tho!
Your rendition of that song totally rocked! You two are far better looking than Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow any way.
So I cruise by here, for the first time in about 6 months, with my pocket karaoke machine handy wanting to know if you’re up for it and bang, I’m faced with this?
Unbelievable.
So jealous!
Rock on!
And speaking of riding mechanical creatures, check this out: http://bit.ly/94hIig
I only dream of you showing up to my hotel room drunk.
Nothing sexy or anything. Just good ole fashion funsies.
With booze.
And maybe sexies.
i want to be you when i grow up. just sayin’.
Oh goodness, this makes me incredibly jealous! Next year, I shall be at BlogHer, so help me…
I’m so jealous about all the BlogHer recaps, and I will be going (someway, somehow) to BlogHer 2011! And I can’t wait to hear about Saturday after reading those tweets.
I still need to watch the YouTube video, but eeeeeek, what a crazy weekend! I absolutely CANNOT wait to hear about Saturday. My boyfriend and I went to Johnny Utah’s from 10:30-2, I was bummed I missed you guys there. I am sooo so glad we got to have dinner and hang out one on one, it was fun! Good luck on Wednesday
Oh my goodness – there’s a part two? And props on the choice of duet. Can’t get much worse!
drunk tweeting is the best. even though it was morning but still, you get my point.
It was good, good times! That’s absolutely the best karaoke I’ve ever seen.
You’re so much fun, as usual. I must karaoke with you. It’s on my life list now.
I can’t wait to come visit DC so we can go karoke too. It was awesome hanging out with you this weekend! Can’t wait to do it again soon. NYC meet up this fall?
OMG. Amaze-balls.
Seriously.
Can not wait to get my ass back to DC to visit you and Liz and karaoke at recessions. And you two DAMN well better get yo asses back to NYC for karaoke at what I call…9gays. (aka iggys)
You = amazing. <3
I wish I could have been a fly on the wall and watched the whole event, it would have been pure rainbows being shit out of unicorns!
You don’t fool me at all. You were practicing for that duet for weeks.
That video makes me feel drunk in the best way.
WINNING TWEETS, LILU. Hahaha.
That’s seriously plastered.
I feel that I NEED to go to one of these, like desperately. Do you know if there will be another BlogHer soon? Or even better, anything 20SB meeting in (or near) NYC?
Ooooo, sounds like yet another crazy good blogger time!!
I really need to come to one of these events sometime before…well, I stop blogging. Shit. Better get on it.
How were you at BlogHer and I never saw you? Unacceptable!
I took the bus to NYC for the first time last week. We didn’t have any break-downs, thank goodness, but the possibility of such a horrible event did indeed cross my mind. Yuck!
Okay, seriously? That was the best karaoke I’ve ever heard!!
Oh, that all sounds like so much fun!!
I’m totally familiar with the “I’m in a tiny gross washroom with pieces of toilet paper wrapped around my hands so I don’t touch anything, desperately trying not to fall and slip”-scenario. That’s me in airplane & train bathrooms. My friend and I used to call this whole maneouvering process “bathroom karate” because it requires serious SKILLS and if the bathroom is really, really gross (ie. if I’m at a shady bar at 3am) it usually involves me kicking open the door (because I’m a wuss and don’t want to touch that either). If I’m drunk enough I might even include a Miss Piggy-ish “HI-YAAA!” with the kick.
