There was a time when I was one of those girls who prided herself on “not getting along with other women”. I probably thought it made me sound cool, like I was one of the boys and “didn’t DO drama”, and got along better with guys than girls.
Have you ever heard a girl say that?
Yeah. It’s complete bullshit.
Yes, women are petty. Yes, they can be bitchy and conniving and fickle and evil and manipulative and backstabby and jealous and all that jazz, whereas STRAIGHT (thanks, Just Jack!) men are simpler and don’t overanalyze things to the point of craziocity, and obviously are easier to just “hang” with.
But women? Are also fucking amazing. And years later, I am proud to say I have a kickass harem of them in my life.
Yesterday afternoon was the best six hours I’ve had in a long, long time. Maxie held her Gap “Born to Fit” party, and I had basically the greatest time EVAR. Free jeans and pizza and allthefuckingwineyoucandrink are great, really they are. But nothing compares to a solid 360 (omg I am such an idiot, I cannot believe I actually put “600″ and let it sit here until 1:42, this is why I hate math and will someone please get me some coffee and an Advil???) minutes of full blown, high estrogen voltage, women-y talk. No boys allowed (not that they would ever want to)… just shooting the shit about everything from period mishaps to hair stylists, from makin’ babies to havin’ babies, from religion and politics to hampsters on a piano eating popcorn, on a piano.
It feeds my soul, it really does. Every hour or so, as we branched onto some crazy new topic and 15 fabulous women all gave their two cents, I just thought how freaking lucky I was to be surrounded by such strong, open-minded, loving and generous and all around fucking FABULOUS women.
Because under all the bathroom humor, apparently, I’m a giant, pathetic, enormous sap. No one send me pictures of cute kittens today… I’d probably just melt into a puddle of goo. Seriously, I kind of want to punch myself in the face.
There, I just did. Just for you. It had to happen.

It just goes back to that ancient peice of wisdom that we all learned in elementary school – Girls Rule and Boys Drool!
Seriously, I love me some girl time. Few and far between nowadays. One of best friends was like that in highschool. She completely prided herself on having only guy best friends. Then one day she realized, years later, that all of her guy friends got girlfriends or wives and moved on. She had noone. She reached out to me for friendship, because we were close back in the highschool days, and I immediately hugged her and was glad that she finally came to her senses. Guys are cool but you can’t beat the tight bonds that women share. Usually the best girlfriends are in for the long haul.

Okay first, I LOVE How I Met Your Mother. Me and my roommate just got into it a little while ago and we’re addicted. It’s hysterical.
And I’m still one of those girls. Especially seeing as I don’t really do drama well and tend to just abandon overly dramatic friends. Plus, many girls have a problem with me. Something about me screams, “don’t like me!” I don’t have a problem with all girls … just some. I’m very selective of the girls that become “my girls.” …So it’s kinda convenient I usually have mostly guy friends.

the worst thing about moving countries is leaving your girls behind. in ym final year we all lived in the same street and only fun times were had. and i def miss that alot. altho i got girlfriends here nothing will ever compare to the love and girliness shared during that year…drama and all:)

i think when we’re in our teens, as girls , we are so wrapped up in being young and having fun, that really our girlfriends are just there to go along for the ride. for me, at that point in my life, it was hard to see the true value in female friends. as i’ve gotten a [teeny] bit older, i’ve found that those friendships are the ones that really matter. those girls are the people you turn to in your darkest hour. and maybe i didn’t know this when i was young because i didn’t have “dark hours” back then. as i struggled with that loss of innocence, those girlfriends were there. to help me grow, to help me cope, to help me smile. female friends just make everything make sense.

I must say as a straight man commenting on this blog I feel somewhat alone. I have always hung out with girls, except when I worked at Disneyland where I hung out with my “girls.” I don’t believe most men understand the feminine logic and humour as described above, but really, someof us did take the time to learn all about what you are talking about, even if we haven’t experienced it.
As far as girls who have no girl friends? They are the ones I refuse to hang out with. They are bigger bitches, and run around with a chip on their shoulder the size of Manhattan. We don’t need that garbage, and they need someone to talk to.
Wish I could get back to the coast to drink with you all, but it just isn’t going to happen anytime soon. I’ll let you know when I’m headed back that way. I think around Thanksgiving.

I know what you mean about girls. I’ve always been the girl who enjoyed male companionship more than female. Since I got married, had some babies, met other moms and reconnected with old girlfriends I’m realizing that girls aren’t so bad afterall.
