Since it’s Friday, sort of a holiday, and there’s only three of you procrastinating at work reading blogs today, let me share with yous-all my favorite movies of 2008. These three caught me by surprise- I wasn’t expecting any of them to be phenomenal, but they were all fantastic. Also, I have to give B credit here, because he made me watch all of them against my will. What can I say? The man knows me.
Without further ado, the three movies of ot Eight that THUNDERSTRUCK ME, complete with trailers.
Iron Man
Robert Downey Jr. as a superhero? Honestly, I wasn’t buying it. But this truly was entirely entertaining- the story was fantastic, the action scenes were great, and I never really knew it before, but apparently Robbie’s a really freaking talented actor. Can I call you Robbie? No? Oh, go smoke a crack rock. Don’t call it a comeback…
Okay, I’ll admit I had a hunch this one would be pretty good. James Franco and Seth Rogen are kickass, and the fact that James played the complete stoner/dealer rather than Seth was intriguing. I tried not to expect too much, but I need not have worried- this movie was freaking HILARIOUS. And it’s definitely the kind of movie that gets funnier every time you see it. Danny McBride, who plays Red (quite possibly the best character in the movie) was a wonderful surprise- every line out of his mouth had us cracking the eff up. He has a new show coming out on HBO soon, and we can’t freaking wait. (Btw, Pineapple Sunshine comes out on DVD January 6th. We were devastated when we went to Blockbuster yesterday and couldn’t get it.)
I was totally skeptical. Robots? That don’t talk? How could this possibly keep my very short attention span engaged? I’ll admit, I was worried for the first twenty minutes or so that I wouldn’t be able to get into this supposed children’s film, but I was so, so wrong. Pixar has truly done it again. This movie made me aww, it made me laugh, and please don’t make fun of me, but it also made me cry. If you watch it, you’ll understand. This was, by far, my favorite movie of 2008. Do yourself a favor, and Netflix the shiz out of it. Just keep the tissues close by…
Honorary Mentions:
Step Brothers and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.
I thought there was a good chance both of these would suck, and while they’re not quite as good as some of the Will Ferrell – John C. Reilly stuff, they are both DEFINITELY worth a Netflixing. I’d love to post the Beatles scene from Walk Hard here, because B and I literally hurt from how hard we were laughing, but it was the funniest scene in the movie so that might ruin it for you. Instead I’ll just tell you that there are about 30 hilarious A-list thespians with cameos in the movie (including every single person from The Office), and they made it totally worth it, even if the story got a little slow at times.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
And I know it’s not a movie, but honestly, if you haven’t caught on yet… DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GET ON THE ALWAYS SUNNY BANDWAGON!!! GET ON IT NOW!!!!
You can watch episodes here. Just sayin.
And that is all I will say about that. Happy Weekend, hookers!

I'm a big fan of Step Brothers. I haven't seen the others. (except for Always Sunny which I <3)
I haven’t seen any of them :hiding: – I need to sign up for netflix again so I can watch these.
This hooker will be in a vodka induced later today ha -
♥ Burn After Reading.
With our powers we will show the world that something good could actually come out of Philadelphia.
I totally cried during Wall-E too. It’s okay. It’s a great movie!
And ohhh Pineapple Express. I am a firm believer that anything Seth Rogen touches turns to gold.
Wow, there are a few of us procrastinating today. Who knew?
Shockingly, I haven’t even seen Wall-E. Hubby and I don’t get to the movies much. It happens when you get old and have little kids. But I digress………………………………………….
I liked Wall-E, too! Who knew I could enjoy a mostly silent robot love story?
Stepbrothers: AWESOME.
Did not see Pineapple Express yet because my wife has this clear dislike for Seth Rogen. Which means I have to sneak these movies in like it’s porn.
Except I don’t really have to hide them in the Mr. Rogers DVD collection on the video shelf.
My kids ever decide to watch that shit, they’re totally going to need Interventions later in life.
Um, I’m not a hooker. But happy weekend to you, my shocking little pooper!
Maxie: Step Brothers was great from the get-go. “Why are you all sweaty?” “I was watching Cops.”
Zipcode: Get on the bandwagon! And I have vodka and Fresca waiting for me in my fridge right now…
66: We actually tried to get that yesterday as well, but Blockbuster was all out. I’ll make it happen.
rs27: If I have to make it my life’s work.
BWP: I tried to hide it from B at first, but soon I was sobbing- there was no hiding it. He waited until after the movie to make fun of me. Sweet man.
Fearless: I am so, so sorry for all of you.
Nothing Fancy: The little kids would love Wall-E! Just sayin…
Shannon: I know- I was totally skeptical. And I was totally wrong.
Moog: That’s okay- Intervention is a kickass show too!
Lisa: Forgive me, I can be careless with my unorthodox terms of endearment.
The only movie I watched was Iron Man. I can’t sit still long enough to do so. And the only reason I watched THAT one was because I was making Mr. Booty Call wait for it.
Saw Iron Man over Xmas…loved it. RD, Jr. makes my panties flutter. He is talented and dead sexy.
I agree with Lem…Robert Downey is and has been a sexy mo fo since I was a kid. Even when on crack. Ok, maybe not then. But a brilliant actor.
He is a dead ringer for my first boyfriend too…does that make me like him less or more? Hmmmm.
LOL I literally laughed out loud when I read the part about Robbie and his crack rocks. You are great!
Oh and thank you for bearing with me through my comp issues on my blog. Your comments often make my day
I’m sorry, but Iron Man was horrible. I far preferred Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder. “I FARM LAND MOTHERFUCKER!” I’m going to go watch kiss kiss bang bang now.
Wow, I saw a lot of movies, but not a single one of those. Now I’ve got a nice list of movies to rent, so thanks!
I’ve watched your blog off and on from Jack’s blog list but I had to leave a comment now
Wall-E…. I have to agree…. I absolutely LOVED this freakin movie… I started out the same way of thinking… “no one’s talking??? what the f@#$?? my kids are gonna HATE this movie!”
Then I watched it and holy crap… it is by far one of the most politically stimulating movies I have seen in awhile, with the subtle undertones… we are a lazy, fat society, that will eventually have to learn from our mistakes…
and yeah, I cried, and laughed, and gave 5 stars to this movie…
My 3 year old now walks around saying, “Wall-E??? Eeeeevvvaaaa”
I just watched Step Brothers the other day and I was dying laughing. DYING!!! I am so not returning it to netflix for some time. Loved it.
Kate: Ha- my attention span for movies is pretty short as well. I have to be sucked in right away, or I’ll just give up.
Lemmonex: Rowrrr indeed.
Kass: Let’s go with more…
Ruby: Aw, no worries, darling! I don’t know what I’d do without my third arm, I mean my computer.
Malnurtured Snay: Really? I guess I’m a dork but I loved it.
Cyndy: You’re welcome, my dear.
Miles To Go: Thanks so much! And YES, B and I literally walk around DC saying “Wallll-eee?” and replying “EVE ah!” … It’s probably much cuter when your 3 year old does it.
LBluca77: We Blockbustered it, but after I return it I might get it on our Netflix just so we can watch it again.
We are so out-of-touch with recent movies. We avoid crowded places here – people have NO concept of personal space or staying civilly in lines, etc., not to mention we’ve heard movies here are stupid-loud – but to top it off, we have no TV, only DVD’s. We appreciate recommends for good movies
(series too). Thanks! btw… yea, loved Iron Man, and we took the kids to Wall-E over the summer. Haven’t heard of the others though.
dude! exactly agree with your excellent movie reviews slash support of the IASIP bandwagon! bump it!
Oh, I’m a dork too, I just thought it was a really bad film.
I liked Iron Man for what it was, and I am not into these sorts of movies, in general.
And on your recommendation just saw Wall-E. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Connie: You are supa welcome! And I am a netflix buff- it’s rare that I actually make it to a theatre.
MyLittleBecky: “I’m not going to bump it.” “Just bump it!” “I’M NOT GOING TO BUMP IT!!!”
Malnurtured Snay: Fair enough
LA Cochran: I’m so glad! I’m sure your heart is toasty warm.
I was on a red-eye flight when I stumbled into Wall-E… I stayed awake to finish watching the movie. Yes, it is awesome.
My kids were almost in raptures after they watched Wall-E! Together with them I also enjoyed this touching robots love story. If you haven’t yet watched the movie – here’s the link for downloading http://rapidqueen.com/?q=wall-e
